Congratulations to our
Award of Excellence Winner
Marisa DeLuca
Marisa was awarded fourth place for her oil on canvas
The Dress.
About Marisa:
Marisa is an Italian American visual artist from Oceanside, California. Her work has been exhibited at various galleries in the Southern California region. She is the co-founder of the nonprofit Artists in Solidarity and is a University of California, San Diego Alumni (BA in Visual Arts-Studio, 2021).
Marisa became interested in art at a young age due to encouragement from her family as most artists are, but her interest in art as a viable life path came as a result of her experiences in the Visual Arts Program at UC San Diego. Working with a diverse cohort and a slate of accomplished faculty gave her the belief that a fulfilling career in the arts is possible.
A few of her recent juried exhibits include:
UCSD Studio Honors Annual Exhibition, Adam D. Kamil Gallery, La Jolla, CA
29th Annual Juried Exhibition at the Athenaeum Music and Arts Library, La Jolla, CA
#Obsessed Art Exhibit at Ashton Gallery @ Art on 30th in San Diego, CA
About The Dress:
The Dress (2021) is an oil painting on hand-stretched canvas that measures 30” by 28.” This piece is part of a larger body of work that meditates on the gentrification in Oceanside, California. Inspired by memory, temporality, and the feeling of melancholy and powerlessness one feels navigating endangered urban spaces, I attempt to preserve moments that are disappearing and honor them. In revering these moments, I seek to also honor the working poor in the region through this work.
