Congratulations to our winners:
First Place: Mollie Ong
Title: Big Dreams & Loss
Bio:
Mollie Ong (b. 1995) is a first generation Chinese American artist. She began studying art at Riverside City College in 2013, and received her BFA in Character Animation from California Institute of the Arts in 2020. She works as a freelance animator and illustrator, and has been an Instructor at RCC, CalArts, and Otis College of Art and Design. In addition, she pursues painting and independent animated filmmaking in her studio.
Artist Statement:
My work is derived from the reflections of my surroundings and the mystery of my family's history. Coming from multiple generations of immigrants, my work often portrays themes of loneliness, confusion, loss, and hope. Through allegorical imagery I strive to illuminate internal narratives, seeking to navigate the cultural and generational divides in my experience as a first-generation Chinese Singaporean American.
Description of "Big Dreams & Loss":
In "Big Dreams & Loss", two figures contemplate life next to a glass half empty and full. Both characters express two sides of a coin: one of hope and endless possibilities, and another of the subsequent loss and change that comes with pursuing life. The vacillation of these thoughts are a delicate balance that can tilt and shift with immense delicateness, and potentially be misled, like a poisonous butterfly landing in one's cup.
Second Place: Fiorenza Gorini
Title: Launch Sequence
Fiorenza Gorini is an Italian-born painter whose work is rooted in a deep engagement with the human figure and the stories it carries. Since beginning her professional career in the San Francisco Bay Area in 2008, Gorini has developed a practice that moves fluidly between representation and abstraction, allowing intuition to guide her balance of structure and spontaneity.
Her work has been exhibited at institutions such as the De Young Museum in San Francisco, the Triton Museum of Art in Santa Clara, and in solo shows at the Pacific Art League and Hadadi Fine Art.
In her series "Swimming Pool Concept", Fiorenza Gorini explores the human body in motion and at rest, set against the distilled geometry of the swimming pool. The works capture both the dynamism of dives and descents, and the stillness of solitude beneath the water’s surface. Evolving from early experiments to more layered and introspective compositions, the series becomes a meditation on balance, vulnerability, and suspension. The pool itself emerges as both a stage for athletic gesture and a metaphor for states of being.
Third Place: Seraphine ...
Title: Peace is the Seed of the Mother
My painting that was accepted was created and accepted into an exhibition at a museum in Mexico City. All art was based on one poem about peace.

Since the first cave paintings 40,000 years ago, humans have both documented and created reality through image-making. This theme runs through art history, whether we are talking about a 16th century still life or a collage created to express your love for Justin Trudeau.
Now we live in the Instagram era, which blurs the line between reality and pictorial fiction to a degree never before seen. A vacation snapshot is also a shoe advertisement and a carefully edited addition to the personal brand. This exhibition seeks to explore three tendencies: works that reflect reality, works that create fictions, and works that mediate the two.
We are seeking to mount a diverse show exploring every ramification of this theme in a wide variety of 2D media.
