The San Diego Museum of Art Artists Guild presents 16 and Under, an exhibition celebrating the power of small-scale art. Featuring works no larger than sixteen inches in any dimension, this exhibition demonstrates how compelling artistic expression can flourish within an intimate format. Artists working across a wide range of media bring their unique voices to this showcase, proving that scale is no barrier to creativity, impact, or innovation.

Juror Barbara Sexton, visual artist and retired Professor of Fine Art at San Diego Mesa College, selected works that reflect excellence in traditional art, fine craft, and contemporary practice. Known for her multidisciplinary work spanning installation, drawing, photography, digital media, public art, and technology, Sexton brings a thoughtful and expansive perspective to the exhibition. Her selections highlight works that embrace creative risk, challenge familiar forms, and invite viewers into new ways of seeing and understanding the world.

Presented at SHIFT Gallery in Ocean Beach, 16 and Under offers a diverse collection of artwork by members of the Artists Guild. With no prescribed theme, the exhibition showcases an engaging range of subjects, styles, and materials, reflecting the depth and breadth of artistic talent within the Guild community. From finely crafted traditional works to bold contemporary explorations, each piece demonstrates the ability of small-scale art to create meaningful connections and lasting impressions.
