With great sadness, the Artists Guild announces the passing of long-time Guild member Donald K. Ryan.
Don was an exceptional oil painter. Without neglecting his professional responsibilities as a Marine Corps Infantry Officer and subsequently a Medical Doctor, he always found time to paint. During more than forty years he produced hundreds of paintings and drawings.
Only in the last 20 years did he become interested in exhibiting. During that time he was juried into more than 40 local, regional, national, and international shows. He also participated in numerous juried Guild exhibitions and received several awards.
Don joined us at many of our Artists Discussions Meetings at Liberty Station and we all enjoyed his interesting comments when he showed us his artwork.
One of Don’s quotes about his work:
Good pictures have been created for many different reasons: instruction, edification, decoration, titillation. My aim has been to create paintings that afford visual pleasure, mainly through the achievement of visual equipoise.
He will be greatly missed. Our condolences go to his wife Linda and his daughters.
